  1. Report: Israel behind recent strike on Syria missile depot, U.S. officials say....Airstrike targeted Russian-made Yakhont anti-ship missiles, unnamed officials tell CNN. ....

Several blasts that took place on July 5 at a critical Syrian port was the result of airstrikes by Israeli fighter jets, multiple U.S. officials told CNN.

Friday's CNN report cited three unnamed U.S. officials as saying that the airstrikes targeted Russian-made Yakhont anti-ship missiles.

No one had officially claimed responsibility for the explosions at Latakia, in Syria's north.

Israel's government has also declined to comment on the allegations.

In a statement released the previous Friday, the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that "huge explosions shook the area where a large Syrian army base and weapons depots are located."

According to reports that have reached the rights group, fighter jets were seen in the skies in the area of the city of Al-Haffah, east of Latakia. It was further reported that several troops have been killed and wounded in the explosions. Fires broke out in the region.

If the report is proven to be true, this would be the fourth Israeli strike in Syria in six months. In January, Israel struck a convoy carrying weapons evidently meant for Hezbollah while it had stopped at a Syrian research center on the outskirts of Damascus. Israel attacked twice more, over the course of one weekend in May, targeting a shipment of advanced surface-to-surface missiles at the Damascus international airport......http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/report-israel-behind-recent-strike-on-syria-missile-depot-u-s-officials-say-1.535502?localLinksEnabled=false

  2. Israel behind mystery attack on Syrian port – US sources ...

US officials have revealed that explosions reported at a key Syrian port on July 5 were likely the result of an Israeli airstrike.

Three officials spoke to CNN on condition of anonymity, referring to the pre-dawn explosions in the city of Latakia as an Israeli operation which allegedly targeted Russian-made Yakhot anti-ship missiles.

The Yakhont is a cruise missile with a range of 300 kilometers, capable of delivering a warhead weighing in at 250 kilograms. Russia supplied Syria’s armed forces with a Yakhont missile battery in 2011.

Shortly after the July 5 incident, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that "huge explosions shook the area where a large Syrian army base and weapons depots are located."

According to reports by the SOHR published by Haaretz, fighter jets were seen in the skies around the city of Al-Haffah, which lies east of Latakia. Several troops were reported as having been killed or wounded in the ensuing explosions.

Syrian rebels said on Tuesday that “foreign forces” had destroyed advanced anti-ship missiles in Latakia, but only hinted that Israel had been behind the attack, Arutz Sheva reported.....http://rt.com/news/israel-attack-syrian-port-041/

  4. Israeli submarine responsible for July attack on Syrian arms depot - report...

sraeli submarines carried out the attack on an arms depot in the Syrian port city of Latakia on July 5, according to a report published in the British Sunday Times. US media previously claimed the offensive was carried out by the Israel Air Force.

The Times cited Middle East intelligence sources as stating that the Israeli Dolphin-class submarines targeted a contingent of 50 Russian-made Yakhont P-800 anti-ship missiles that had reportedly arrived earlier this year to support Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime.

The alleged Israeli naval strike was reportedly closely coordinated with the US. ......http://rt.com/news/israeli-submarine-%20strike-syria-081/

    1. Netanyahu Addresses Reported Airstrike on Russian Missiles in Syria...

MOSCOW, July 14 (RIA Novosti) – Speaking on American television on Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu evaded a direct response when asked whether his country was involved in a recent airstrike in Syria that reportedly targeted Russian missiles sold to the Syrian government, an ally of longtime Israeli enemy Hezbollah.

However, Netanyahu said, Israel's policy "is to prevent the transfer of dangerous weapons to Hezbollah and other terror groups," according to a transcript of the CBS-TV show, "Face the Nation," that was obtained by The Associated Press.

Netanyahu refused to confirm or deny Israeli involvement in the July 5 airstrike, news of which was leaked to The New York Times on Saturday by US officials speaking on condition of anonymity because they were citing intelligence reports.

According to those officials, Israel carried out the airstrike to destroy Russian Yakhont anti-ship cruise missiles at Syria’s principal port city, Latakia. The missiles allegedly compromised Western powers’ ability to provide weapons and other supplies to the Syrian rebels, as well as impose a blockade or no-fly zone.

Israel was reportedly concerned that such missiles could also be provided to Hezbollah, a Lebanese militia that is fighting on behalf of Syria’s ruling regime and whose primary goals include the elimination of the state of Israel. The United States has classified Hezbollah as a terrorist organization.

  5. RT source: Israeli strike on Syria was carried out from Turkish base...

Israel used a Turkish military base to launch one of its recent airstrikes against Syria from the sea, a reliable source told RT. Israel has been under scrutiny since last week, when it was reported to be responsible for a July 5 depot attack in Latakia.

News that Turkey assisted Israel in attacking another Muslim state could result in serious turmoil for Ankara, once the information is confirmed.

"Our source is telling us that Israeli planes left a military base inside Turkey and approached Latakia from the sea to make sure that they stayed out of Syrian airspace so that they cannot become a legitimate target for the Syrian air force," RT's Paula Slier reports.

Relations between Turkey and Israel were strained until March 2013, as a result of a flotilla incident which happened more than three years ago. In protest against Israel’s refusal to apologize, Turkey expelled the Israeli ambassador and severed military ties.

The two agreed to normalize their relationship after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu apologized to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Ankara has been known for its assistance to foreign-backed militants, allowing them to train on Turkish territory before infiltrating into Syria.

Shortly after the July 5 airstrike, the Free Syrian Army said that rebels were not responsible for the attack, which destroyed Yakhont anti-ship missiles being stored there.

"It was not the FSA that targeted this," Qassem Saadeddine, FSA’s Supreme Military Council spokesman told Reuters. "It is not an attack that was carried out by rebels.” .....http://rt.com/news/israel-strike-syria-turkey-089/

    1. Turkish FM denies Israel used its base to attack Syria ...

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu denied a report that Israel had used a Turkish military base to launch a July 5 air strike on a Syrian arms depot in the port city of Latakia.

Russia Today quoted Davutoglu as saying Monday that the reports were "absolutely wrong," saying the spreading of such stories is an "act of betrayal."

The Turkish foreign minister said that "Turkey will neither be a part nor a partner of such ‘attacks.’ The ones who claim this want to damage Turkey’s power and reputation.”
