Western countries are planning to draft a U.N. Security Council resolution on Syria in accordance with Section 7 of the U.N. Charter, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin said on Wednesday, April 30.
“They say they will draft a resolution under Section 7 of the U.N. Charter,” he told ITAR-TASS after a Security Council meeting that focused on the humanitarian situation in Syria.
Section 7 of the U.N. Charter allows sanctions and the use of force.
Churkin said the move was untimely and suggested “focusing on political settlement” in Syria instead.
