President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner used today's UN General
Assembly to once more demand efforts from the United Kingdom to sit down
and negotiate for the disputed Malvinas Islands, while criticising the
system of the Security Council dominated by five permanent members.
CFK reiterated, as is habitual before the UN, Argentina's claim on the archipelago and the conflict with the UK government "that has been pending for the last 100 years."
But she also hit out against the composition of the body dominated by the United States, UK, France, Russia and China, stating that the system harmed the standing of nations without a permanent seat.
"As long as the vote of the five permanent members that are seated in the Security Council is worth more than that of Ghana, Uganda, Argentina or the United Arab Emirates, nothing will be solved," the head of state fired during her address in the opening of the 69th Assembly.
"There will only be speeches, we will be here every year without anything finding a solution."
