An official statement issued by the General Secretariat of the Arab League on Wednesday afternoon announced that the Arab league received memos from Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar and Iraq agreeing to the Saudi request.
The Joint Defence Council meeting was to draft a protocol for a Arab Joint Force.
The General Secretariat added that the meeting was postponed to unspecified date after the secretary general consulted Egypt, the current president of the Arab Summit.
Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi had proposed the formation of a combined Arab force to the Arab summit which took place in March 2015 in Sharm El-Sheikh.
According to the summit's March stipulation, the Joint Arab Force is intended to combat security threats to the Arab region, particularly from "terrorist" organisation.
The Arab countries' heads of state have twice met in Cairo, in April and May, where they drew up a draft protocol for the creation of the Force.

ReplyDeleteA meeting of defence and foreign ministers "has been postponed indefinitely and a new date will be set later," the league's secretariat said Aug. 26.
No reason was given for the postponement, but the league statement said it came at the request of Saudi Arabia, backed by Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
At a summit in March, Arab leaders agreed to form the force, and army chiefs have already met twice in Cairo to work on the details.
The decision to create the force was mostly aimed at fighting the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) Group, which has overrun swathes of Iraq and Syria and secured a foothold in Libya and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula.
