Colombian Parliament Approves Peace Deal With FARC: 130 votes in favour, 0 votes against

Colombia’s parliament has ratified a peace agreement with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia — People's Army (FARC), Colombia’s Vice Interior Minister Luis Ernesto Gomez said.

"Endorsed the #AcuerdoDePaz [peace agreement] in the house of representatives with 130 votes in favour, 0 votes against. Came the peace!" Gomez wrote on Twitter.

The agreement was approved by the country's senate earlier this week. The peace deal was signed between the Colombian government and the FARC last week. The original peace deal was rejected by the people of Colombia in a referendum last month.

The new deal, containing some 60 amendments, was signed by Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos and FARC leader Rodrigo Londono, known as Timochenko. FARC was formed in 1964 as the military wing of Colombia's Communist Party.

The half-century war between the FARC and the Colombian government claimed the lives of a quarter of a million people. The two sides began peace talks in November 2012.
