President Bashar al-Assad received on Sunday a European parliamentary delegation headed by Deputy Chairman of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs Javier Couso.
Talks during the meeting dealt with the latest developments in Syria, the European Union’s policies towards the terror war targeting the Syrian people, and the prospects of finding effective solutions for ending this war.
President al-Assad pointed out to the scale of the disinformation carried out by most of the Western media outlets throughout the years of the war in Syria, and how they lost their credibility even among the Western public opinion itself, all of which which contributed to increasing the frequency of the visits of European parliamentarians to Syria in order to witness the reality and relay a true picture of what is happening to their people.
His Excellency asserted that the wrong polices pursued by several European countries towards Syria and the region in general, policies which are represented by supporting extremism and terrorism and imposing economic sanctions on people, have led to what we are witnessing nowadays in terms of the spread of terrorism and the flow of large numbers of refugees to those countries.
For their part, the members of the delegation, who belong to several European states and parties, confirmed their intention to proceed with their efforts to correct the erroneous views both on the political and popular levels towards what is happening in Syria, in addition to continuing work towards restoring diplomatic relations between the EU states and Syria, and towards lifting the sanctions imposed on Syria, which would contribute to restoring security and stability to the country.
In the same context, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem received the European delegation, affirming to them that Syria supports and responds to all honest efforts seeking to find a political resolution for the crisis by encouraging dialogue among the Syrians who only want Syria’s interest and without any foreign interference, and by supporting national reconciliations.
