Le Rwanda a été le premier pays africain à envoyer des troupes pour soutenir l'armée mozambicaine dans sa lutte contre les jihadistes dans la province du Cabo Delgado. Les Shebab, affiliés à l'organisation État islamique, ont fait, depuis 2017, plusieurs milliers de victimes et entrainé le déplacement de centaines de milliers de personnes dans le nord du Mozambique. Simon Wohlfahrt, envoyé spécial de France 24, a patrouillé avec les forces rwandaises dans cette région durement touchée.
