The last, sixth, operating unit at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant was stopped – they began to prepare it for transfer to a cold state, the Ukrainian Energoatom reported.
For the last three days, the 6th power unit of the Zaporizhzhia NPP operated in low power mode and provided only the own needs of the nuclear power plant. This situation arose due to constant shelling, as a result of which all communication lines of the facility with the energy system of Ukraine were damaged.
On September 10, one of them was restored, but for security reasons, the last block was nevertheless decided to be turned off.
Energoatom warned that if the nuclear power plant’s communication lines with the Ukrainian energy system were damaged again, the power supply would have to be provided by diesel generators, but their life was limited both by technical issues and the amount of fuel available. Measures are now being taken to supply additional batches of fuel to the station.
