Israeli armed forces destroy Greek Orthodox Church in Gaza, there are wounded

The Greek Orthodox Church of St. Porphyrios in the Gaza Strip was destroyed by Israeli bombing, and there were casualties, Greek public television ERT reported, citing the Interior Ministry in the Gaza Strip.

There were reports last week that the church was destroyed by rocket fire, but these were later denied. Then the clergy house at the church was destroyed by a missile strike. Now it is reported that the church building has been destroyed.

"The Ministry of Interior in Gaza reported the collapse of the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Porphyrios in the central city of Gaza as a result of Israeli raids and confirmed the presence of injuries among people taking refuge in the church. According to ERT, there were 50 people in the temple, most of them children and women," the TV channel reported.

According to the sources, the majority of those trapped under the rubble are parishioners who sought refuge from the airstrikes in the hall of the historic church of Agios Porfirios, along with displaced persons from the northern and southern areas of Gaza.

An estimated 1,000 people have sought refuge inside the church, its school and other facilities in Gaza.

  1. The Hamas-controlled interior ministry said several displaced people who had taken shelter at a church compound in the Gaza Strip have been killed and injured after an Israeli strike late Thursday.

The strike left a “large number of martyrs and injured” at the compound of a Greek Orthodox church, the ministry said.
