General Michael “Erik” Kurilla, head of US Central Command, said his visit was to “ensure Israel has what it needs to defend itself, particularly focused on avoiding other parties expanding the conflict”.
In a show of military might and support for Israel, the US has deployed one aircraft carrier strike group to the eastern Mediterranean and sent a second that will arrive in the region in the coming days.
