The Prime Minister of Israel, Binyamin Netanyahu, said in an interview with the ABC television channel that those who do not want to follow the path of the Palestinian movement Hamas should govern Gaza.
"Those who do not want the continuation of the path of Hamas. I think that Israel will be responsible for the common security for an indefinite period, because we have seen what happens when we do not have such responsibility," Netanyahu said in response to the relevant question.
Asked by ABC News if he would agree with US President Joe Biden's call for humanitarian pauses in the war, Netanyahu said: “As far as practical, there will be short pauses — an hour here, an hour there. We've had them before. We will review the conditions for additional pauses to allow humanitarian goods to come in or our hostages, individual hostages, to leave."
Netanyahu noted how he would agree to a cease-fire if Hamas released all of the approximately 240 hostages held in Gaza. “There would be a ceasefire for that purpose and we expect that to happen. It has not happened so far," he stressed.
