The Netherlands will send five F-16s to Romania to train Ukrainian pilots

The Netherlands is sending five of its F-16 fighter jets to Romania on Tuesday to train Ukrainian pilots, the country's Defense Minister Kaisa Ollongren said.

“Five Dutch F-16s are leaving today for the Fetesti airbase in Romania. In the near future, a training center for flying F-16s will open there to train pilots from both NATO countries and Ukraine,” Ollongren wrote on the social network.

The Netherlands and Denmark were the first to agree to provide Ukraine with F-16 fighters. The White House has confirmed that Ukraine will receive combat aircraft from third countries once its pilots complete training. Dutch Defense Minister Kaisa Ollongren said that The Hague expects to send the first F-16 fighters to Kyiv in 2024. She also reported that the Netherlands intend to send 12-18 such fighters to the training center for Ukrainian pilots to fly the F-16 in Romania.
