Ukrainian Colonel Roman Chervinsky coordinated sabotage on the Nord Stream, The Washington Post writes.
“A high-ranking Ukrainian military officer with deep ties to the country’s intelligence services played a central role in the 2022 Nord Stream gas pipeline explosion,” the publication reported, citing officials in Ukraine and Europe, as well as informed sources.
The article states that the colonel did not act alone and was not involved in planning the operation. According to media reports, he obeyed orders from higher-ranking Ukrainian officials, who, in turn, obeyed the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valery Zaluzhny.
The Washington Post said that he was "managing logistics and support for a six-person team that rented a sailboat under false identities and used deep-sea diving equipment to place explosive charges on the gas pipelines.
At the same time, Chervinsky himself denies his role in undermining Nord Stream.
A joint investigation by The Washington Post newspaper and German outlet Der Spiegel singles out Roman Chervinsky, a 48-year-old who served in Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces.
ReplyDeleteHe was the “coordinator”, the reports said, citing officials in Ukraine and elsewhere in Europe, as well as other people with knowledge of the operation, who spoke anonymously.
He oversaw logistics and support for a six-person team, which rented a sailing boat using false identities and diving equipment to place explosive charges on the pipelines, said the Post.
On April 21, the Ukrainian Security Service announced that Chervinsky had been charged under the article on abuse of power. According to the investigation, the Ukrainian military official, together with other persons, arbitrarily decided to carry out a so-called special operation to seize a Russian military aircraft. On April 25, a Kiev court arrested Chervinsky for two months without bail. In May, the court ruled to live him under arrest.
