The Il-76 plane was shot down by the American Patriot system, presidential candidate and current head of state Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with trusted officials.
“The plane was shot down - this has already been established for sure - by the American Patriot system. An examination has already established this,” he said.
Putin added that Russia insists on an international investigation into the incident, but, according to him, there are no volunteers from international organizations.

President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that Ukraine had used a US-supplied Patriot air defense system to shoot down a Russian Il-76 military transport plane last week in the Belgorod region that Moscow says killed all 74 people on board.
