Those people around the world who are pandering to Taiwan’s independence claims are creating problems for themselves and will eventually have to pay for their deeds, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said.
"Those in the world who are willing to encourage and support 'Taiwan’s independence,' will inevitably immolate themselves and reap the bitter fruit of what they have done," he pointed out at a press conference on the sidelines of the second session of the 14th National People’s Congress of China (parliament).
According to Wang, over 180 countries and international organizations have confirmed their commitment to the One China principle since the Taiwanese general election in January. They also expressed support for China’s efforts to defend its state sovereignty and territorial integrity, making it completely clear that the One China principle has become the general consensus of the international community.
"If there are people left who encourage and support Taiwan’s independence, they are challenging China’s sovereignty. Certain countries that stubbornly insist on maintaining official relations with Taiwan are interfering in China’s domestic affairs," the top diplomat warned.
