On May 17, the European Union officially published a document according to which a number of Russian media, including RIA Novosti and Izvestia, are prohibited from broadcasting in EU countries.
“Today the [European] Council decided to suspend the broadcasting of four more media outlets in the European Union : Voice of Europe, RIA Novosti, Izvestia and Rossiyskaya Gazeta,” the publication says.
The press release notes that, in accordance with the Charter of Fundamental Rights, the agreed measures will not prevent the media and their employees from operating in the EU. The restrictions will only apply to broadcasting, such as research and interviews.

Она напомнила, что Москва предупреждала об ответной реакции, которая неизбежно последует после таких репрессивных мер. Ответственность за подобное развитие событий лежит исключительно на ЕС, подчеркнула Захарова.
DeleteZakharova kommentierte die EU-Sanktionen gegen die russischen Medien und bezeichnete sie als Fortsetzung der politischen Zensur und der Säuberung des Informationsraums von alternativen Standpunkten. Sie erinnerte daran, dass Moskau vor der Gegenreaktion gewarnt habe, die unweigerlich auf solche repressiven Maßnahmen folgen würde. Die Verantwortung für eine solche Entwicklung liege allein bei der EU, betonte Zakharova.
