The destruction of Russian missiles over Ukraine from the territory of the North Atlantic Alliance will not make the West a party to the conflict, retired German general Klaus Wittmann said on the Welt TV channel.
“The fear of escalation, that we will be drawn directly into this conflict, is exaggerated. I consider this proposal very reasonable,” he asserts.
Wittman believes that this will help relieve the burden on Ukrainian air defense, and it can be more actively used to protect the front.
The day before, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper reported that several German parliamentarians supported the idea of using Western anti-aircraft systems from NATO countries to counter Russian missiles over Ukraine.
As Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov previously stated, the Europeans see that the situation is rapidly changing and is fraught with a complete collapse for Ukraine, so they are deliberately escalating tension.
