Ukrainian troops plan to send five of the 10 brigades they will form in the coming weeks to defend Kyiv as Russian troops advance in the Kharkiv region, Politico reported Monday.
“Five of the ten new brigades that will be formed in the coming weeks will be sent to defend the capital ,” the publication writes.
As the newspaper notes, these “precautionary measures” are caused by fears that Russian troops will again approach Kyiv.
According to the publication, the fighting in the Kharkov region indicates the beginning of a “decisive battle” that will be critical for the outcome of the conflict. Politico believes that if Russian forces manage to take Kharkov, then the West’s willingness to support Kyiv may waver in the near future.
