Hamas politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh was killed in the Iranian capital of Tehran, the Palestinian militant group said in a statement on Wednesday.
The agency said Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were "martyred" after their residence in Tehran was targeted.
"With condolences to the heroic nation of Palestine and the Islamic nation and the combatants of the Resistance Front and the noble nation of Iran, this morning (Wednesday) the residence of Mr. Dr. Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the political office of the Islamic Resistance of Hamas, was hit in Tehran, and following this incident, he and one of his bodyguards were martyred," a statement from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) read.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas “strongly condemned” the killing of Hamas Chief Ismail Haniyeh in an Israeli raid in his residence in Tehran, the Palestinian state news agency WAFA reported on Thursday.
ReplyDelete“President Mahmoud Abbas of the State of Palestine strongly condemned the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, deeming it a cowardly act and a serious escalation,” Abbas’s office said in the statement.
“He urged our people and their forces to unite, remain patient, and stand firm against the Israeli occupation.”
The Israeli military refused to comment the report of the demise of Hamas Politburo head Ismail Haniyeh in Iran.
