The US Department of Defense declined to comment on Ukraine’s first loss of a donated US-made F-16 fighter jet.
"For this query we refer you to the government of Ukraine," a Pentagon spokesman said.
An unidentified US official told Reuters that the plane crash was not caused by Russian forces.
The Wall Street Journal reported, citing a US official, that Kiev for the first time lost one of the US-made fighter jets that had been donated shortly before. The official said the plane was not shot down and that the crash was likely caused by pilot error.

Initial reports indicate that the jet wasn’t shot down, but likely crashed due to pilot error, the official said. The incident occurred during a massive missile attack.
The Pentagon referred the newspaper to the Ukrainian Air Force for comment, but the Ukrainian Air Force wouldn’t confirm the crash or the status of the pilot.

Предварительно, истребитель потерпел крушение во время удара ВС РФ по военным объектам на Украине. При этом причиной падения могла стать ошибка пилота.
Украинские власти пока официально не комментировали информацию. Ранее Владимир Зеленский заявил, что Украина впервые использовала истребители, чтобы сбить российские ракеты во время ударов.
