The UK will send Ukraine 650 new specialist missile systems to boost its air defences, London said Friday, weeks after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticised the pace of weapons deliveries.
The first batch of the "Lightweight Multirole Missile (LMM)" systems -- made by French defence group Thales -- were set to be dispatched by the end of the year, the government said, as it bids to "speed up deliveries of aid".
London’s military aid, supplied to the Kiev government since February 2022, has totaled 7.6 billion pounds ($10 billion). Apart from Martlet, the United Kingdom handed over long-range Storm Shadow missiles, Challenger 2 tanks, AS90 self-propelled howitzers, M270 multiple-launch rocket systems and NLAW fire-and-forget anti-tank weapons systems.

ReplyDeleteEl Reino Unido enviará 650 sistemas misiles multiusos ligeros (LMM, por sus siglas en inglés) Martlet por 162 millones de libras (213 millones de dólares) a Ucrania en el marco del nuevo paquete de ayuda militar, informó el Ministerio de Defensa británico en un comunicado.
"El Reino Unido suministrará 650 sistemas de LMM a Ucrania para impulsar las capacidades de defensa aérea del país, en el marco del compromiso del nuevo Gobierno con Ucrania (...) El paquete de hoy es parte del trabajo del Reino Unido para ayudar a intensificar la producción de defensa británica y europea - con el pedido de hoy de 162 millones de libras ayudando a dinamizar la cadena de suministro para el futuro", señala comunicado.
