Rutte: NATO countries will spend more than 2% of GDP on defense, as Trump wanted

The countries of the North Atlantic Alliance will increase defense spending, exceeding 2% of GDP, as previously demanded by the elected President of the United States Donald Trump. This was stated by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the European Political Community summit in Budapest.

"There's absolutely no doubt that we're going to have to spend more [on military spending], it's definitely going to be significantly more than 2%. And Donald Trump was absolutely right about that—two percent won't get you very far," he said.

Earlier, Rutte said that one of the largest manufacturers of weapons and military equipment in Europe, Rheinmetall, will soon complete the construction of a second military plant in Ukraine.
