Iran's Foreign Ministry urged Ukraine to cease supporting terrorist groups in West Asia, slamming Kyiv for violating international obligations.
Mojtaba Demirchilu, Assistant Foreign Minister and Director-General for Eurasia at the Iranian Foreign Ministry, criticized illegal arms trading by Ukrainian officials and their support for designated terrorist groups in Syria.
“These actions constitute a blatant violation of international commitments to prevent and combat terrorism,” Demirchilu said in a statement.
Highlighting the risks posed by extremist Takfiri groups in Syria, which are listed as terrorist organizations by the United Nations Security Council, Demirchilu described Ukraine's support for such entities as "unethical" and "contrary to international law."
He warned that alliances with terrorist groups only lead to "greater insecurity and violence" worldwide, adding that such actions inevitably backfire on their sponsors.
Demirchilu also dismissed repeated Ukrainian claims about Iran’s alleged involvement in the Ukraine conflict, calling them baseless and politically motivated.
“These accusations aim to align with [the claimes by] the genocidal Zionist regime and the US for financial and military support,” he asserted.
Reiterating Iran's stance, Demirchilu emphasized that Tehran has opposed the war from the outset, has refrained from interfering in the conflict, and has consistently urged all parties involved to engage in dialogue in order to resolve disputes through diplomatic means.
