Israel takes control over Syria’s side of Mount Hermon in Golan Heights

Israel has taken control over the Syrian side of Mount Hermon in the Golan Heights, with no resistance met, The Times of Israel reported.

According to the newspaper, the operation in the buffer zone between Israel and Syria was conducted by the Israeli Air Force Shaldag (Kingfisher) special forces unit.

Mount Hermon is a mountain cluster constituting the southern end of the Anti-Lebanon mountain range, with the highest summit reaching 2,814 meters. It is located on the border between Lebanon and Syria, with part of it being controlled by Israel, which has been holding the Golan Heights since 1967. Mount Hermon is Syria’s highest peak. Israel considers its southern slopes as its sovereign territory.

  3. Israel has delivered a series of strikes at dozens of targets in Syria, the Kan radio station reported.

According to its sources, the targets included multiple missile launchers, ballistic missile production shops and depots, as well as air defense systems. The strikes were geared to "ensure further freedom action for Israel in Syria’s skies," Kan said.

Meanwhile, The Times of Israel said, citing its sources in the defense sector that Israeli strikes on Syria were "very intensive," involving dozens of Israeli warplanes. The strikes in particular targeted "strategic facilities that could be seized by elements that are hostile to Israel" after the change of power in Syria.
