US President Donald Trump has said he would like to see Jordan, Egypt and other Arab nations increase the number of Palestinian refugees they are accepting from the Gaza Strip – potentially moving out enough of the population to “just clean out” the war-torn area to create a virtual clean slate.
During a 20-minute question and answer session with reporters aboard Air Force One on Saturday, Trump said he discussed his vision on a call earlier in the day with King Abdullah II of Jordan.
“I’d like him to take people. I’d like Egypt to take people,” Trump said. “You’re talking about, probably a million and a half people, and we just clean out that whole thing and say, ‘You know it’s, over.’” [AP]
Donald Trump has said he believes the US will gain control of Greenland, after showing renewed interest in acquiring the autonomous Danish territory in recent weeks.
ReplyDelete"I think we're going to have it," he told reporters on Air Force One on Saturday, adding that the island's 57,000 residents "want to be with us".
His comments come after reports that Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen insisted Greenland was not for sale in a fiery phone call with the president last week.
Israeli bombardment and ground assaults have flattened wide swaths of Gaza and displaced about 90 percent of its population of 2.3 million people. Many who returned to their homes since the fragile ceasefire began have found only vast piles of rubble where neighbourhoods once stood.
