Pakistani Military Opens Fire on Indian Border

The Pakistani military opened fire on the border control line of the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir on the night from Saturday to Sunday, the Indian agency PTI reported citing sources.

The shooting on the border was recorded in the areas of Tutmari Gali and Rampur. Indian army personnel responded with "return fire from small arms," the sources said, TASS reported.

There were no reports of casualties.

On April 22, armed individuals opened fire on tourists in the town of Pahalgam in northern India, killing 25 Indian nationals and one tourist from Nepal. The attack also resulted in multiple injuries. The attackers managed to flee the scene. The Times of India reported, citing intelligence sources, that the attack was carried out by the Resistance Front, a sabotage outfit of the Pakistan-based radical group Lashkar-e-Taiba.

After the terrorist attack, India almost halved the number of its embassy in Islamabad, declared military advisers to the Pakistani diplomatic mission personae non gratae, and closed the key Attari checkpoint on the border. Indian authorities also suspended the agreement with Islamabad on the distribution of water resources and the issuance of visas to Pakistani citizens.

  1. China calls on India and Pakistan to show restraint after the terror attack in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir because a conflict is in the interests of neither of them, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said.

"China calls for the soonest impartial investigation because a conflict is not in the fundamental interests of either India or Pakistan and will in no way promote regional peace and stability," the Chinese foreign ministry quoted him as saying during a phone call with his Pakistani counterpart, Ishaq Dar.

  2. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the victims of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on Sunday, condemning the loss of lives and reiterating New Delhi’s commitment to punish the perpetrators.

Speaking on the radio show Mann Ki Baat, the country’s leader started by expressing deep anguish over the slaughter, in which 26 tourists were gunned down while visiting a popular picnic spot on April 22.

It marked the second time in the last few days that Modi promised justice to the families of the victims. He vowed to pursue the murderers to the “end of the earth” during a political rally in Bihar state. Speaking in English – somewhat rare for him – he vowed that India would identify, trace, and punish every terrorist and their supporters.
